Job summary

Hero Practice Services is looking for an Optometric Assistant to manage visual tests, operate diagnostic equipment and assist with eyewear fittings. This role reports to the Lead Optometric Assistant and offers a pathway for career growth within the practice and region.

The position emphasizes supporting optometrists during exams, performing pre-tests, and maintaining accurate records while delivering patient-focused service in a busy pediatric vision practice.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a vision practice is a plus.
• Ability to tech, scribe, and perform optometric tasks.
• Strong communication skills.
• Proficiency in EHR systems.
• Ability to train and lead a team of Optometric Assistants.
• Ability to multitask and complete tasks on time.
• Knowledge of optometric online software/database is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Understand and monitor office processes including coding and materials, insurance benefits, patient collection, and documentation.
• Call patients for appointment confirmations, reminders, cancellations, no-shows, and recalls.
• Support optometrists during eye exams with pre-tests and result recording.
• Accompany patients and parents during exams to pre-test and assist the optometrist in fitting glasses.
• Conduct vision tests such as visual acuity, color vision, stereo, and pupils; administer dilation drops.
• Assist patients in frame and lens selection based on prescriptions.
• Process patient payments during check-in and check-out.
• Keep the practice clean and presentable, including restrooms and lobby.
• Participate in duties supporting high-quality vision and dental services for underserved children.

Position Overview

We are currently seeking an Optometric Assistant to administer visual tests, operate diagnostic equipment, and help with eyewear fittings. This position will report to the Lead Optometric Assistant.

Pay range

$15.75-$20.00/hr

Job Responsibilities

• Understand, monitor, and ensure the smooth execution of office processes, including coding and optometric materials, insurance benefits, patient collection, and documentation
• Call patients regarding appointment confirmations, reminders, cancellations, no shows, and recalls
• Support optometrists during eye exams by preparing patient, performing initial pre-tests, and recording results
• Accompany patients and parents during exams to pre-test the patient and assist Optometrist in scribing and finding a good fit for glasses
• Perform vision tests such as visual acuity, color vision, stereo, confrontations, pupils, ICT, and administer dilation drops
• Help patients select frames and lenses based on prescriptions
• Process patient payments during check-in and check-out
• Ensure practice is clean and presentable to patients to include cleaning restrooms, patient lobby, mopping, vacuuming, dusting etc.
• Participate in other duties that support the mission of providing high-quality and compassionate dental, vision, and orthodontic services to underserved children
