Job summary

Matter Intelligence is seeking an Optomechanical Engineer to own the architecture, design, integration, and qualification of high-performance optical payloads for space and airborne platforms. You will champion optomechanical design through concept to flight hardware, ensuring performance through rigorous environmental testing and assembly processes.

You will collaborate with optical, systems, thermal, structures, and manufacturing teams, and mentor junior engineers while balancing performance,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Optical, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or related field.
• 5+ years in optomechanical design and development of precision optical systems.
• Experience owning optomechanical designs from requirements through integration and test.
• Strong background in optical mounting, alignment, tolerancing, and metrology.
• Hands-on hardware integration, alignment, and environmental testing experience.
• Proficiency with CAD tools and GD&T; able to produce documentation.

Responsibilities

• Lead optomechanical design of precision optical assemblies and payloads for space-qualified systems.
• Define mechanical architectures that preserve alignment through launch and on-orbit.
• Translate optical sensitivities into mechanical, thermal, and manufacturing requirements.
• Drive concept development, design maturity, and reviews.
• Lead optomechanical integration and alignment of flight hardware in cleanroom environments.
• Support environmental testing and anomaly resolution.
