Job summary

K2 Space in Los Angeles is hiring a mechanically focused optomechanical design engineer to own the design and build of precision structures that hold our optical payloads in space. You will mount lenses and mirrors, design supporting structures, and ensure alignment survives launch, thermal cycling, and on‑orbit operation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical, aerospace, optical, or related engineering.
• 2+ years of mechanical/optomechanical design and analysis experience.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD for detailed part and assembly design.
• Hands-on optics mounting and structural design experience.

Responsibilities

• Design optomechanical assemblies from concept to on-orbit operations.
• Mount lenses and mirrors and design mounting schemes to constrain optics without over-constraining them.
• Ensure optical alignment and stability budgets and thermal considerations.
• Lead design reviews from kickoff through qualification and beyond.
• Drive hardware development from assembly to flight-qualified hardware.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish product requirements and best practices.
