Job summary

Samtec is seeking an Optoelectronics R&D Technical Leader to join the Silicon Valley Design Center in Santa Clara, CA. The role leads the technical direction for designing and developing optical transceiver products and guides a cross-disciplinary team through the full product development lifecycle.

You will translate requirements into metrics, perform prototype bring-up, validation, and production transitions, and collaborate with product managers and manufacturing to ensure scalable,

Qualifications

• 4+ years in optoelectronic transceiver design with integrated RF-optics focus.
• Familiar with RF design tools and optical simulation software.
• Hands-on with RF and optical test equipment (VNA, BER tester, optical spectrum analyzers).
• Strong RF theory knowledge and optoelectronic concepts.
• Ability to solve complex RF-optical challenges and document findings.
• Excellent organizational and cross-functional communication skills.
• Optional familiarity with satellite, data center, 5G, or radar applications.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop hybrid RF-optics products like RF-over-fiber modules and optical transceivers.
• Model and simulate RF-optical subsystems using ADS, HFSS, Zemax to refine designs.
• Design integrated RF components with optical elements for cohesive assemblies.
• hands-on testing and validation using RF test equipment and optical tools.
• Troubleshoot RF-optical interactions and optimize impedance and noise performance.
• Collaborate with product managers and manufacturing for scalable, cost-effective designs.
• Document specifications, test procedures, and performance data for milestones.
• Research emerging RF-optics technologies to maintain a competitive edge.
