Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Mechanisms Engineer II for Opto-Mechanical Systems to support design and qualification of precision mechanical systems for the TeraWave constellation. You will contribute to gimbal assemblies, pointing mechanisms, and related hardware while growing expertise under senior engineers in a mentorship-driven team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related field.
• 2+ years of experience in mechanisms design for space or high-reliability applications.
• Exposure to gimbal assemblies or multi-axis pointing mechanisms.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD and finite element tools.
• Knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-up, and interface control documentation.
• Familiarity with space qualification testing concepts and bearing systems.

Responsibilities

• Support design and development of precision gimbal assemblies and pointing mechanisms for space-based terminals.
• Develop mechanism performance requirements, error budgets, and design margins.
• Perform design trade studies and analyses for gimbal configurations.
• Support mechanism qualification activities including testing in shock, vibration, and thermal environments.
• Prepare design documentation, analysis reports, and test procedures for review.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on integration, harness routing, and interfaces.
• Assist production transition with tolerance analysis and DFM/DFA reviews.
• Contribute to motor/encoder selection, bearing selection, and tribology considerations.
