Job summary

Total Wine & More is seeking a Data Scientist, Operations Research to join our Data Services team in Bethesda, MD. You will develop optimization and decision-science solutions to support decisions across pricing, inventory, supply chain, and marketing.

You will translate business problems into mathematical models, evaluate solutions, and integrate outputs into production workflows, collaborating with partners and senior team members.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Master's degree preferred.
• 1–4 years of relevant experience in Operations Research / Optimization.
• Hands-on experience with Gurobi (strongly preferred) or similar solvers.
• Proven experience building and deploying large-scale mathematical models in production environments.
• Ability to design and maintain data pipelines for large-scale modeling workflows and work with large datasets.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL with scalable, maintainable code.
• Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) for scalable execution.

Responsibilities

• Develop mathematical optimization models (LP, MILP) based on objectives and constraints.
• Design and implement optimization solutions using Gurobi or similar solvers.
• Assess requirements, data, and constraints to choose modeling approaches.
• Evaluate model results with scenario testing and validation.
• Implement optimization outputs within production workflows.
• Develop and maintain data pipelines supporting modeling workflows.
• Resolve routine modeling, data, and performance issues.
• Develop scalable code in Python and SQL with established standards.
• Communicate approaches, results, and recommendations clearly.
• Monitor model performance and adjust as needed.
