Job summary

Total Wine & More in Bethesda, MD is seeking a Lead Data Scientist to design, develop, and deploy ML/AI solutions that drive strategic decisions and operational efficiency. You will own end-to-end ML lifecycle from ideation to deployment and monitoring, mentoring junior teammates and guiding technical trade-offs.

You will lead production-grade ML systems, frame complex business problems, and communicate results to leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in data science, CS, mathematics, statistics, economics or related field or equivalent years of experience.
• Master's degree preferred in CS, mathematics or statistics.
• 5-8 years in data science, predictive analytics, econometrics, software engineering, data engineering or related fields preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design and architect advanced ML/AI solutions for enterprise applications.
• Train models by preparing data, selecting algorithms, and tuning hyperparameters.
• Validate model performance with statistical metrics and fairness assessments; tie results to business value.
• Deploy models into production with robust packaging, integration, and monitoring.
• Monitor model performance, detect data drift, and trigger retraining when needed.
• Mentor junior team members and provide thought leadership on ML/AI approaches.
• Communicate model results and trade-offs to leadership and stakeholders.
