Job summary

MKS Instruments in Irvine, CA is seeking an Optics Fabricator to join our manufacturing team. You will partner with Production, Engineering and Planning to produce world-class precision optics, reporting to the Manufacturing Supervisor.

You will read routers, operate polishing machines, test parts with interferometers, and perform routine equipment maintenance while ensuring high surface quality and process reliability.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required or preferred.
  • Basic computer literacy and good communication skills.
  • Enthusiasm for collaborative, team-based work.
  • Related experience in sizing, grinding, or polishing optical materials (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Operate polishing and generating machines to process optical materials.
  • Read routers and drawings to understand part specs and processes.
  • Test optical parts using interferometers, calipers, and micrometers.
  • Troubleshoot equipment to achieve passing parts.
  • Inspect surface quality to ensure no digs or scratches.
  • Maintain machines to keep them running efficiently.

Job description

A Day in Your Life at MKS:

As an Optics Fabricator at MKS Instruments, you will partner with Production, Engineering, Planning, and others to produce world-class precision optics. In this role, you will report to the Manufacturing Supervisor.


You Will Make an Impact By:
  • Running multiple polishing and generating machines to process various optical materials (i.e. fused silica, CaF2, etc.).
  • Reading routers and engineering drawings to understand part specifications and manufacturing processes.
  • Testing optical parts using interferometers, calipers, micrometers, and other test equipment.
  • Troubleshooting and making necessary adjustments to your equipment to achieve passing parts.
  • Performing surface quality inspections to ensure parts are free of digs and scratches.
  • Performing maintenance on your machines to keep them running at peak efficiency.

Skills You Bring:
  • Preferably completion of high school, vocational training, or equivalent.
  • Basic computer skills and literacy.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Enthusiasm for working collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred Skills:
  • Related experience in sizing, grinding, or polishing of optical materials using conventional and/or CNC methods.

Compensation and Benefits:

Hourly Pay Range: $18.89 - 31.49 USD Hourly. This range is a good faith estimate of the expected salary range for this position, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience and training, operational and business needs and other considerations permitted by law.At MKS, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role.


Bonus:

This position is eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, in an amount to be determined by MKS [or as applicable].
