Job summary

Riverside Medical Clinic is seeking an Optician to promote eyewear sales, service optical customers, and maintain the optical shop. The role may involve travel to other facilities or optical shops to support patient needs and ensure consistent service across locations.

You will perform patient assessments, measure ocular parameters, and help select lenses and frames while delivering excellent customer service.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Graduate of an accredited Optical Dispensing Program, or 1–2 years related experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform preliminary patient work-up and determine current prescription.
• Measure bridge and eye size, temple length, vertex distance, PD, and optical centers.
• Evaluate prescription and recommend lenses, coatings, and frames.
• Prepare work orders for grinding lenses and fabricating glasses.
• Sell and dispense contact lenses and eyeglasses; train patients.
• Verify lenses match prescription and adjust frames.
• Sell plano sunglasses and low vision aids.
• Repair damaged frames or send to optical lab as needed.
• Maintain inventory and handle budget-related duties.
• Collect payments and balance receipts.
• Call customers to update status.
• Maintain current Optician/Dispensing certification.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• 1.Perform preliminary patient work-up; determine patient’s current contact lens or eyeglass prescription; use lensometer or lens analyzer and patient’s eyeglasses, as necessary.
• 2.Measure patient’s bridge and eye size, temple length, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and optical centers of eyes.
• 3.Evaluate prescription in conjunction with patient’s visual requirements. Recommend specific lenses, lens coatings, and frames to suit patient’s needs. Coordinate frames with facial and eye measurements and optical prescription.
• 4.Prepare work order and instructions for grinding lenses and fabricating eyeglasses.
• 5.Sell and dispense contact lenses and eyeglasses. Instruct and train patients in adapting to, wearing, and caring or contact lenses and eyeglasses.
• 6.Verify finished lenses ground to specification and ensure that received contact lenses match prescription. Heat, shape, or bend plastic and metal frames to adjust eyeglasses to fit patient.
• 7.Sell optical goods such as plano sunglasses, magnifying glasses, and low vision aids.
• 8.Repair damaged frames or send to optical lab, as needed.
• 9.Maintain inventory levels and fiscal responsibilities as it pertains to the budget.
• 10.Collect payments, process tic sheets, and balance receipts.
• 11.Call customers to inform them of the status of their requests.
• 12.Maintains current Optician certification/ Dispensing certification.

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Graduate of an accredited Optical Dispensing Program, or one to two years related experience required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS: American Board of Optician Certified (ABOC) and National Contact Lens Certified (NCLC) preferred.
