Job summary

Innovista Eye in San Antonio, TX is seeking a Lead Optician for a new private practice in the Fair Oaks/Boerne area. This full- or part-time role focuses on upscale, concierge-style eye care, glasses and contact lens sales, and boutique eyewear services.

Ideal candidates have optician experience, strong customer service, and knowledge of eyewear products. The position emphasizes teamwork, insurance processing, and involvement in local health events to grow the practice.

Qualifications

• Prior experience as an Optician.
• Knowledge of retail math and systems for inventory management.
• Proficiency with electronic health record systems like Crystal PM.
• Knowledge of eyewear products and lens technologies.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• High school diploma or GED; Opticianry certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with frame styling based on optics and prescription, aesthetics, hobbies/functionality, and other vision requirements.
• Take accurate measurements using manual techniques and pupillometer to ensure proper fit and comfort of eyewear.
• Educate patients on lens options, coatings, and frames to help them make informed decisions; adjust and repair eyewear as needed.
• Process eyewear orders, verify insurance coverage, submit claims, and coordinate with labs for lens production.
• Maintain accurate records of prescriptions, orders, and payments.
• Provide exceptional customer service by addressing inquiries, resolving issues, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
• Schedule patients, describe services and products, verify and explain insurance benefits, set recalls.
• Assist in local health fairs and events, and travel/market the office and services to local businesses.

We are a new private practice located in the Fair Oaks/Boerne (North San Antonio) area. Our practice will focus on full-scope medical eye care, dry eye services, myopia management, and ocular diseases. We will also provide tailored eyewear services to our patients in our boutique optical.

Role Description

• Be able to schedule patients, describe our services and products we offer, verify, and explain insurance benefits, set proper recall appointments and reminders.
• Assist in local health fairs and events, as well as dedicating time to travel and market our office and services to local businesses and other subspecialties in the area

Qualifications

• Previous experience as an Optician. - Knowledge of retail math and systems for inventory management and sales tracking.
• Familiarity with retail management practices to effectively manage the optical department.
• Understanding of aseptic technique for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in the dispensing area.
• Proficiency in using electronic health record systems such as Crystal PM for medical billing and medical records management.
• Proficiency in Optics and understanding of Optometry concepts
• Strong focus on Customer Service and delivering optimal Customer Satisfaction
• Experience or familiarity with Eye Exams and related procedures
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Detail-oriented with the ability to work accurately and efficiently
• Knowledge of eyewear products and lens technologies is a plus
• High school diploma or GED required; certification in Opticianry preferred
