Job summary

The Structures Company in Santa Rosa, CA is seeking a Materials Engineer to design and develop sputtering and evaporation processes for optical thin films. This contract role requires ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance and offers 12 months with potential extension.

You will use TFCalc and related tools, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with customers and vendors to optimize deposition processes and ensure product qualifications.

Qualifications

• Ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance.
• U.S. Person for ITAR compliance.
• Extensive experience with sputtering and evaporation designs for optical thin-film products.
• Proficiency with thin film design tools such as TFCalc, OptiLayer, FilmStar, or FilmWizard.
• Experience with analytical and metrology tools for thin film characterization.
• Experience with thin film materials and process engineering.
• Ability to act as primary technical contact for multiple projects and managers.
• Experience mentoring entry-level engineers and technicians.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills for data-driven decisions.
• Strong communication skills for customer and vendor engagements.
• Experience with optical thin-film product development and production.

Responsibilities

• Designs and develops sputtering and evaporation processes for optical thin-film products.
• Uses thin film design tools like TFCalc, OptiLayer, FilmStar, and FilmWizard for design and analysis.
• Acts as primary technical contact to internal Program Managers for multiple projects.
• Mentors and trains entry-level engineers and manufacturing technicians.
• Applies analytical and metrology tools for thin film characterization and process control.
• Optimizes thin film deposition processes for production and development.
• Supports engagements with customers, vendors, and colleagues for technical discussions.
