Job summary

The Rockefeller University is seeking an Optical Systems Engineer to design, build, and apply cutting-edge optical neuroimaging technologies for recording neuronal activity at unprecedented scale, speed, and resolution. This role requires a strong theoretical and hands-on background in optics and instrumentation.

The successful candidate will own major long-term research thrusts, work with neurobiologists and industrial partners, and contribute to advancing multi-photon and other microscopy

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in physics, optical engineering, electrical engineering, or related field.
  • A minimum of 2 years of hands-on work experience in microscopy, ultrafast optics, non-linear optics or opto-electronic hardware.
  • Self-driven, highly result oriented, excellent communication and time management, able to work in a team with academia and industry.
  • Basic programming skills (e.g., MATLAB, Python, LabVIEW, SolidWorks, CAD).

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design and development of new multi-photon high-speed large-scale in vivo optical neurotechnologies.
  • Redesign and optimize existing optical platforms and co-develop pre-commercial prototypes with industrial partners.
  • Adapt and improve computational data processing and analysis pipelines.
  • Document, develop SOPs, and draft manuscripts for publications; train junior scientists.
  • Support collaborative projects and ongoing technology dissemination efforts.
