Job summary

Nova Biomedical is seeking a Staff Optical Engineer to lead the design, development, integration, verification, and validation of optical subsystems used in biomedical devices. You will guide cross-functional teams across imaging, spectroscopy, and opto-mechanical design to deliver robust instrument platforms.

The role requires hands-on optical hardware development, strong problem-solving, and the ability to mentor engineers while maintaining rigorous technical documentation and design controls.

Qualifications

• Eight+ years of experience developing optical subsystems for instrumentation or medical devices.
• Hands-on optical hardware development experience including optical path design and alignment.
• Experience with medical device design controls and regulated product development is preferred.
• Strong documentation and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Translate system requirements into optical subsystem specifications.
• Lead optical subsystem architecture for imaging, spectroscopy, and sensing.
• Define interfaces with mechanical, electrical, software, and analytical subsystems.
• Plan and perform optical testing, DoE, verification, and performance studies.
• Mentor engineers and guide cross-functional teams.
