Job summary

Neurophos in Austin, TX is seeking a Systems Engineer to own calibration architecture for our OVMM engine. You will design calibration algorithms and drive lab bring‑up, verification, and performance characterization.

Candidates bring 5+ years in calibration and mixed‑signal systems, strong control theory and signal processing skills, and hands‑on lab experience with test equipment and Python/MATLAB tooling.

Qualifications

  • Degree: MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a closely related field, with emphasis on control systems, signal processing, or mixed‑signal systems.
  • 5+ years of professional calibration algorithm development, system bring‑up, or verification of complex electro‑optic or mixed‑signal systems.
  • Strong foundation in feedback control (stability analysis, sampled‑data systems) and optimization methods (convex optimization, gradient descent, etc.), with ability to formulate calibration as an optimization problem.
  • Deep understanding of analog and mixed‑signal impairments and their impact on system performance.
  • Good understanding of digital hardware design principles, RTL concepts, and hardware‑software partitioning.
  • Hands‑on experience bringing up and debugging complex hardware using lab equipment and correlating measured results with a model.
  • Proficiency in Python and/or MATLAB for calibration software and automated characterization scripts.
  • Excellent communication skills for cross‑functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Define the calibration architecture for the OVMM system and scale algorithms to correct optical phase, amplitude, and timing across channels.
  • Design, implement, and optimize calibration algorithms using control theory and optimization techniques.
  • Develop signal processing techniques to improve measurement SNR within calibration loops.
  • Create calibration data compression methods to reduce storage requirements.
  • Specify calibration controller behavior and interfaces for silicon implementations.
  • Define system integration strategy and lead lab bring‑up and verification with acceptance criteria.
  • Define observability, diagnostics, and test requirements for healthy vs degraded operation.
  • Develop verification plans and characterize performance in the lab, comparing with models.
