Job summary

Prolific Machines in Emeryville is seeking an Optical Calibration Engineer to own calibration systems for illumination hardware and advance optical modeling, experiments, and analyses. You will collaborate with mechanical, electrical, data, biology, and bioprocess teams to connect light delivery with cell culture outcomes and system performance.

You will work hands-on with optics, calibration procedures, and simulations, developing reproducible methods and contributing to faster, cheaper

Qualifications

PhD/MS/BS with relevant industry experience in optical engineering or photonics.
Strong foundation in optics and optical measurement techniques.
Hands-on experience with calibrations of illumination systems and optical components.
Experience using spectrometers, photodiodes, power meters, cameras, or related instruments.
Proficiency in Python for automation, analysis, and modeling.
Ability to design and execute experiments and communicate results clearly.

Responsibilities

Own and continuously improve calibration systems for Prolific’s illumination hardware.
Support optical simulation and modeling efforts with measurements and prototypes.
Develop experiments to characterize light delivery in bioreactor geometries and conditions.
Collaborate across mechanical, electrical, firmware, data, biology, and bioprocess teams.
Translate insights into improved illumination systems and new applications.
