Job summary

Ciena Government Solutions, Inc. is seeking a Network Solutions Engineer (Optical Engineer) to design, coordinate, and execute test plans ensuring seamless integration of Ciena products within the customer’s legacy network, onsite at Fort Meade, MD.

You will serve as the local SME, translate test results into deployment plans, and support commissioning across Layer-0 to Layer-2, with travel up to 25% and a focus on secure, high‑reliability telecommunications infrastructure.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Networking, or a related technical field (equivalent experience will be considered).
U.S. Citizenship required.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Willingness to travel up to 25%.
Experience with Ciena products and DWDM/ROADM architectures.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with customers and stakeholders to understand project requirements and provide support for network architecture design and implementation.
Develop and execute test plans to validate equipment functionality, interoperability, security, and performance.
Translate test results into actionable implementation plans and provide expert engineering support during deployment (Layer-0 to Layer-2).
Perform pre-commissioning activities in labs or staging facilities and manage BOM validation.
Deliver accurate documentation for configuration, provisioning, and testing results.
