Job summary

Ciena Corporation is seeking a Network Solutions Engineer (Optical Engineer) to lead design, testing, and deployment of optical networks for a key customer in Fort Meade, MD. This onsite role requires collaboration with project teams, translating requirements into actionable plans and ensuring interoperability of Ciena products.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with DWDM/OTN, SONET, IP/MPLS, and NMS tools, plus the ability to travel up to 25%. U.S.

Qualifications

• U.S. Citizenship required.
• Active Top Secret (Secret) security clearance preferred.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Experience with Ciena products.
• Strong knowledge of SONET, DWDM, ROADM/nOADM.
• Experience with Ethernet, IP/MPLS/L3.
• Familiarity with NMS (Ciena MCP/Navigator).
• Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications or related field.
• Willingness to travel up to 25%.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with customers to understand project requirements and assist network design.
• Develop and execute test plans for interoperability and performance.
• Translate test results into deployment plans and provide SME support.
• Perform pre-commissioning in labs and verify BOM against final.
• Conduct initial commissioning of Ciena systems from documentation.
• Escalate and resolve issues per Ciena procedures.
