Job summary

Ciena Corporation seeks a Network Solutions Engineer (Optical) to join CGSI, onsite at Fort Meade, MD. You will design, test, and implement high‑capacity optical networks, acting as SME for standards interpretation and modernization efforts.

You’ll collaborate with customers and internal teams, develop test plans, and guide deployment from design to service turn‑up, including NMS training and documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Networking, or a related technical field.
• Active security clearance and ability to work onsite at Fort Meade.
• Experience with Ciena products and optical networking architectures.
• Strong knowledge of SONET, DWDM, ROADM/nOADM and IP/MPLS/L3 protocols.

Responsibilities

• Design, coordinate, and execute test plans to validate interoperability.
• Lead network architecture design and implementation with customers.
• Provide SME guidance, translate results into implementation plans.
• Support pre-commissioning and greenfield deployments in labs and field.
• Turn up network services and perform end‑to‑end circuit testing.
• Document configurations, provisioning, and testing results for deliverables.
