Applied Optoelectronics, Inc. in Sugar Land, TX, seeks a Manager of Optical Module & Device Integration to lead an engineering team across R&D, manufacturing, quality, and reliability to improve product performance, support new product introductions, and resolve integration issues.

This on-site leadership role emphasizes cross-functional collaboration, project prioritization, and delivering robust integration solutions for high-volume production.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in electrical engineering, optics, physics, materials science, or a related field.
• Practical experience in one or more of: optical devices; optical module or transceiver development; optical alignment and packaging; high-speed electrical or optical testing; manufacturing integration, yield improvement, or reliability.
• Ability to analyze technical problems and collaborate across engineering disciplines.
• Experience leading an engineering team or technical projects, with delegation, feedback, and team development.
• Clear communication, a collaborative approach, and willingness to learn beyond primary area.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead an integration team supporting optical modules and devices from development through production.
• Manage team staffing, workload, and performance, including hiring, setting goals, coaching engineers, and conducting reviews.
• Coordinate with device, optical, electrical, and packaging engineers to address integration challenges and meet product requirements.
• Lead troubleshooting of performance, assembly, yield, and reliability issues using test data and structured problem-solving.
• Support new product introduction, process transfer, and manufacturing readiness, including assembly and test requirements.
• Establish project priorities, track improvements, and communicate progress across teams.
