Job summary

Headwall Photonics Inc. in Marlborough, MA, is seeking an Optical Metrology Technician to support test, inspection and documentation in a high-mix manufacturing environment.

You will perform incoming, in-process and final metrology on optical components, maintain quality records, and assist with calibration and measurement system upkeep, with opportunities to broaden quality and process responsibilities.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in optical component test and metrology within optical manufacturing.
• Ability to read and interpret work instructions, drawings, and specifications.
• Experience with mechanical and optical measurement tools.
• Strong attention to detail and documentation discipline.
• Experience in high-mix manufacturing.
• Direct experience with optical inspection or metrology techniques.
• Able to work independently and adapt to changing or evolving priorities.

Responsibilities

Job Opening: Optical Metrology Technician

Location: Marlboro, MA

Role Summary

We are seeking an Optical Metrology Technician with experience in optical or precision component manufacturing to support test, inspection, and record generation in a high-mix manufacturing environment.

This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented but also adaptable and curious, with an interest in expanding their skills beyond inspection into broader quality and process support.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform incoming, in-process, and final test and inspection of optical components and assemblies
• Review and maintain quality documentation (inspection records, travelers, certificates)
• Support nonconformance reporting and basic root cause investigations
• Work closely with peers to quickly resolve manufacturing deviations
• Assist with calibration, measurement system upkeep, and inspection equipment
• Contribute ideas to improve methods and quality workflows

Work Environment

• Role requires extended periods of standing and/or sitting in a clean manufacturing area, wearing proper personal protective equipment including smocks, gloves, and/or safety glasses as required.
• Role requires the ability to transition between multiple process steps and products within a single shift
• Role includes handling and use of chemicals, including the use of proper protective equipment.
