Job summary

Optimax-Systems-Inc. in Union Hill, NY seeks a Metrology Engineer to guide feasibility of metrology needs from inception to final product.

You will collaborate with customers and internal teams to document specifications and ensure optical standards are met throughout the manufacturing process. The role involves operating advanced optical metrology instruments, performing uncertainty analysis, and contributing to data-driven improvement in a fast-paced optics environment.

Qualifications

• BS, MS, or PhD in Optical Science & Engineering or Optomechanics.
• Hands-on proficiency with common optical metrology instruments.
• Fundamental knowledge in manufacturing tolerancing and statistics.
• DOE and Round Robins proficiency.
• Able to interpret blueprints for mechanical and optical standards (ISO 10110).

Responsibilities

• Assess feasibility of metrology needs for complex manufacturing processes.
• Interface with customers and internal teams to document specifications.
• Set up and operate advanced optical metrology instruments (e.g., Fizeau, White Light, Stitching interferometers).
• Apply knowledge of optical test setups (e.g., Ball Test), TWE, and CGH.
• Perform Uncertainty Analysis (e.g., GUM) and develop Error Budgets.
• Analyze data using PSD, Fourier, MSF, and Slope analysis.
• Utilize contact profilometers and design metrological fixturing.
• Inspect and document in-process optics for conformance to ISO 10110.

Metrology Engineer

Job Summary and Essential Job Duties:

The Metrology Engineer works within a dynamic team to see customer requests through from inception to final product. This role is responsible for assessing the feasibility of final and interim metrology needs in relation to the manufacturing process and final product requirements. The engineer will interface directly with customers, internal engineers, quality c6ntrol, and technicians to meet and document part specifications based on customer prints and optical standards.

Through On the Job Training (OJT), the Metrology Engineer will:

• Assess feasibility of metrology needs for complex manufacturing processes.
• Interface with customers and internal teams to define and document specification
• S et up and operate advanced optical metrology instruments, including
  • Fi zeau, White Light, and Stitching interferometers
  • O ptical Profilometers and Autocollimators
• Apply knowledge of Optical test setups (e.g., Ball Test), TWE, and CGH.
• Perform Uncertainty Analysis (e.g., GUM) and develop Error Budgets.
• A nalyze data using PSD, Fourier, MSF, and Slope analysis.
• Utilize contact profilometers (e.g., CMM, AFM) and design metrological fixturing
• I nspect and document in-process optics for conformance to mechanical and optical drawings (ISO 10110).

Advancement through the Metrology Engineer ranks is attained via increasing levels of education, experience, industrial skills, math skills, computing skills, responsibility and leadership potential and effectiveness.

Education Requirements:

• BS, MS, or PhD required in Optical Science & Engineering or Optomechanics.
• Hands-on proficiency with common optical metrology instruments.
• Fundamental knowledge in an applied manufacturing setting regarding tolerancing and statistics.
• P roficient in Design of Experiments (DOE) and Round Robins.
• Capability to perform Uncertainty Analysis and Error Budgeting.
• Excellent communication skills for interfacing with customers and technical teams.
• A nalytical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• C apable of understanding and interpreting blueprints for both mechanical and optical standards (ISO 10110).
