Job summary

Socket.dev seeks an Optical Manufacturing Engineer (Second Shift) to design, model, analyze, test photonics systems and components, including lasers, fiber optics, and electro-optical assemblies. You will apply optics research to meet specifications, develop specs, tolerances, simulations and tests, and perform calibrations to ensure precision.

Qualifications

• Four-year engineering degree (BS) from an accredited college.
• Strong knowledge of optical systems, manufacturing and test concepts.
• Ability to lead and work independently in a team environment.
• Proven ability to influence design for manufacturing changes.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.

Responsibilities

• Join team and contribute to the implementation of leading edge photonics technologies.
• Provide vision and leadership in developing photonics initiatives.
• Foster an entrepreneurial culture by leading and developing a capable team.
• Lead and support equipment and facilities expansion.
• Implement process capability monitoring and improvement, including SPC.
• Provide direction in problem solving and process characterization for efficiency gains.
• Drive optimization of products for manufacturability, cycle time, and cost reductions.
• Work with design to ensure DFM is incorporated into future products.
• Collaborate with engineering to negotiate product specs and print acceptance criteria.
• Travel to other locations or customer sites as necessary (<10% travel).
• Perform other duties as required.
• Resolve production issues with optics and mechanical assemblies.
• Maintain a strong optical and mechanical background.
