L3Harris SMS in Wilmington, MA is seeking a Specialist Manufacturing Engineer – Optical to lead manufacturing engineering for optical and electromechanical assemblies. The role drives scalable processes, lean improvements, and alignment optimization to support rapid growth across programs.

The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams, guide production layouts, and coordinate design changes to meet deadlines with high quality, while managing costs and capacity planning for evolving

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 6+ years of related experience; graduate degree with 4+ years; or 10+ years in lieu of a degree.
• Extensive experience with optical systems, including mirrors and lenses, and solid optical alignment principles.
• Experience solving problems, presenting to various stakeholders, and applying lean methods.

Responsibilities

• Lead and execute manufacturing engineering activities for the assembly and integration of electromechanical and optical assemblies.
• Develop scalable processes from technical documentation and create manufacturing procedures and routers.
• Propose, develop and lead process improvement and cost reduction projects; apply lean liberally to the production cell.
• Lead elements of the manufacturing process including optimization of optical alignment processes, procedures and production layouts.
• Coordinate design changes with design engineering to address technical, operational, and obsolescence issues.
• Estimate and track manufacturing costs; use data to drive Continuous Improvement initiatives.
• Interface with and direct technicians and other operations personnel, backing up the operations manager when needed.
• Support capacity planning and lab space layout for program changes.
