Dr. Tavel Optical Group is a family-owned and operated company that has served Indiana communities for more than 80 years. We are seeking a Manager of Optical Equipment and Facilities to oversee the operational readiness, maintenance, safety, appearance, and long-term care of our facilities, optical equipment, clinical equipment, and company vehicles. This is a high-accountability and highly autonomous position requiring exceptional organization, communication, planning, judgment, and follow-through.

The Company Facilities Currently Includes
  • 29 retail locations throughout Indiana, primarily concentrated within the Indianapolis metropolitan area
  • One corporate office that also houses an optical manufacturing laboratory
  • Approximately 10–20 commercial and residential real estate properties
Daily Responsibilities
Facilities & Property Operations
  • Oversee maintenance, repairs, and operational readiness for 29 retail locations, the corporate office, optical laboratory, and company-owned properties.
  • Manage maintenance requests through MaintainX while prioritizing work based on business needs and operational impact.
  • Coordinate contractors, vendors, inspectors, landlords, and service providers while ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, on time, and within company standards.
  • Maintain professional, safe, clean, and functional facilities that support an exceptional employee and patient experience.
Optical Equipment & Asset Management
  • Coordinate the installation, maintenance, repair, calibration, relocation, and replacement of optical and clinical equipment. (training provided)
  • Maintain equipment inventories, warranties, maintenance histories, service agreements, and preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Monitor equipment performance and recommend long-term repair or replacement strategies to minimize downtime and support operational efficiency.
Project, Vendor, & Fleet Management
  • Participate in facility improvement projects, renovations, office moves, equipment installations, and other operational initiatives from planning through completion.
  • Build strong vendor relationships by obtaining competitive quotes, evaluating solutions, managing service expectations, and ensuring quality work.
  • Oversee company-owned vehicles, including maintenance, repairs, registrations, inspections, warranties, and overall fleet readiness.
  • Coordinate exterior property maintenance, including signage, lighting, landscaping, snow removal, parking lots, and sidewalks.
Safety & Operational Excellence
  • Serve as the Facilities Safety Coordinator by supporting inspections, OSHA initiatives, corrective actions, and facility-related safety improvements.
  • Develop and maintain preventative maintenance programs while identifying opportunities to improve systems, workflows, and operational efficiency.
  • Anticipate operational issues before they become emergencies, exercising sound judgment to resolve concerns independently while recognizing when escalation is appropriate.
  • Provide hands‑on assistance with minor maintenance projects when appropriate and participate in a rotating after‑hours emergency on‑call schedule.

What We’re Looking For (Minimum Requirements)
  • Five or more years of experience in facilities management, property management, construction coordination, building operations, or a related field.
  • Experience managing multiple facilities, vendors, contractors, and concurrent operational projects.
  • Strong communication skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Experience coordinating preventative maintenance programs, repairs, and service providers.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to evaluate priorities, recommend solutions, and manage competing deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with MaintainX or similar maintenance management software is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to travel regularly throughout Indiana.
  • Ability to participate in a rotating after‑hours emergency on‑call schedule.
  • Ability to occasionally perform light physical work and lift up to 50 pounds.
