1st Shift Frames Department Manager
Lead People. Drive Innovation. Keep Operations Moving.

Are you a passionate leader who enjoys building high-performing teams, improving processes, and creating operational excellence? Do you thrive in a fast-paced environment where organization, problem-solving, and innovation make a direct impact? If you're energized by developing people, thinking outside the box, and continuously finding better ways to work, we'd love to meet you.

Dr. Tavel Optical Group is a family-owned and operated company with 29 locations throughout Indiana. For more than 80 years, we've helped Hoosiers see better by providing affordable eye care, designer eyewear, and exceptional customer service. Our state-of-the-art optical laboratory is at the heart of that mission, producing quality eyewear with precision, efficiency, and teamwork.

We are seeking a Frames Department Manager to lead our Frames Department within our optical manufacturing laboratory. This salaried leadership position oversees the daily operations, inventory management, workflow, and development of a dedicated team while driving continuous improvement across department processes. Success in this role requires someone who can balance hands‑on operational leadership with strategic thinking, ensuring exceptional service to both our retail locations and patients.

  • Plan, prioritize, and delegate work effectively to maximize productivity while supporting employee growth and development.
  • Monitor department performance and proactively identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, and service.
  • Provide operational support by assisting with departmental functions as business needs require, including pulling frames, inventory management, and order processing.
  • Manage frame inventory across the distribution center and retail locations to maintain appropriate stock levels and product availability.
  • Partner with vendors to resolve open orders, inventory concerns, and supply chain issues.
  • Coordinate frame swaps, inventory initiatives, and special projects with department leadership and cross‑functional teams.
  • Maintain and update frame information across multiple software systems, ensuring product accuracy and data integrity.
  • Troubleshoot inventory, system, and patient order issues while providing exceptional support to retail offices and internal departments.
  • Collaborate with laboratory leadership to evaluate existing workflows, identify process improvements, and implement innovative operational solutions.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource for team members by answering questions, resolving escalated concerns, and supporting cross‑department collaboration.
  • Anticipate operational challenges, exercise sound judgment, and recognize when leadership partnership or escalation is needed to keep work moving forward.
  • Complete leadership responsibilities including scheduling, timecard approvals, coaching conversations, performance evaluations, corrective action, and employee development.
  • Support organizational initiatives and complete additional projects as assigned.
You Will Be a GREAT Fit If

  • You naturally think outside the box and enjoy finding creative ways to improve processes and solve operational challenges.
  • You are highly organized and excel at planning, prioritizing, and managing multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
  • You lead with confidence while empowering others through coaching, delegation, and accountability.
  • You enjoy building systems that improve efficiency, consistency, and long‑term success.
  • You are self‑motivated and take ownership of your department without requiring constant direction.
  • You communicate effectively with employees, vendors, retail locations, and leadership.
