Our clients Optical Engineering group applies all aspects of the optical engineering discipline to the development of prototype space-borne, airborne, and terrestrial optical systems. By utilizing state-the-art technologies, Optical Engineering specializes in producing innovative, complex optical systems that pioneer operation and performance in a variety of integrated systems. Group expertise and capabilities span the entire life cycle of optical system development, from optical system conceptual development through the detailed design, analysis, assembly, alignment, and testing stages.
The selected candidate will work closely with optical and mechanical engineers to determine the methodologies and techniques required to assemble, align and test precision optical systems. The candidate will ultimately be responsible for executing these techniques and procedures.
The candidate will support staff members in developing a variety of optical systems including telescopes, lens assemblies, laser optics, focal plane assemblies and fiber optics for space and airborne applications. This position involves assembling and aligning complex optical systems using a variety of optical instruments, performing optical testing, and specifying and purchasing optical components. The candidate will also help organize and maintain the Group’s optical facilities and instrumentation. The position may require special security clearances and travel to meetings and field sites.
Required Experience:
-Minimum of 3 years of experience in optical assembly and alignment
-Experience assembling, aligning and testing refractive and reflective optical components and systems
-Experience with optical alignment instruments such as interferometers, autocollimators, alignment telescopes, theodolites, profilometers and wavefront sensors.
-Broad understanding of optical fabrication techniques and shall be capable of evaluating vendors for custom manufacturing requirements
-Experience performing incoming inspection on a variety of procured items and therefore needs a working knowledge of optical fabrication specifications.
Preferred experience:
-Optical-related software and firmware development skills and experience
-Experience with interferometric testing, precision lens assembly, high power lasers and fiber optics
-Experience with space systems and laser communication / lasercom system testing.
