Job summary

Henry Ford Health is seeking an Optical Dispenser to ensure precise eyewear fitting and exceptional patient care. You will interpret prescriptions, adjust frames, and educate patients on care and insurance processes. A strong focus on accuracy and service will be essential in this retail optical setting.

Responsibilities include inspecting orders, dispensing eyewear via the E.A.R.N. method, and maintaining delivery status in our software.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Previous computer experience and basic math skills preferred.
  • Previous customer service, hospitality, or retail experience preferred.
  • Previous dispensing/optical experience preferred.
  • Must be able to walk, bend and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Completion of all required training courses as directed by Henry Ford OptimEyes.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect eyewear orders and verify accuracy prior to patient delivery.
  • Dispense eyewear using the E.A.R.N. process to ensure quality patient experience.
  • Master and use all dispensing tools proficiently.
  • Fit eyewear with precision through frame adjustments.
  • Educate patients on eyewear care and cleaning regimens.
  • Process eyewear delivery orders in our software and track status.
  • Perform frame and lens repairs with attention to detail.
  • Verify prescriptions by analyzing data and making adjustments.
  • Neutralize and verify prescriptions using auto and manual lensometry.
  • Explain lens family options and benefits to patients.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of frame materials for adjustments.
  • Process remake orders and apply vision insurance coverage.
  • Support patient eyewear orders with knowledgeable guidance.

** GENERAL SUMMARY**

As an Optical Dispenser, you'll be the final expert ensuring our patients receive perfectly fitted eyewear that enhances their vision and confidence. You'll interpret prescriptions, expertly adjust and repair frames, and deliver an exceptional patient experience through precision, knowledge, and care.

** PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
  • Inspect eyewear orders and verify accuracy prior to patient delivery, ensuring quality standards are met
  • Dispense eyewear using the E.A.R.N. for Dispensing process methodology to deliver consistent, excellent patient experiences
  • Master and expertly utilize all dispensing tools, demonstrating proficiency in their proper application
  • Fit eyewear with precision through skilled frame adjustments tailored to each patient's unique facial features
  • Educate patients on eyewear care, maintenance, and recommended HFO cleaning regimens to maximize product longevity
  • Process eyewear delivery orders in our software system and maintain accurate delivery status reports
  • Perform expert frame and lens repairs, troubleshooting vision, lens, and frame issues with attention to detail
  • Verify prescriptions by analyzing prescription data, base curves, PDs, segment heights, and visual acuity; make necessary adjustments
  • Neutralize and verify spectacle prescriptions using both auto and manual lensometry techniques
  • Communicate lens family options and their distinct benefits to help patients make informed decisions
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of frame materials to ensure proper adjustment and repair
  • Process remake orders and accurately apply vision insurance coverage
  • Support patient eyewear orders as needed, providing knowledgeable guidance throughout the process
