Job summary

Cerillo seeks an Optical Engineer to design, develop, and validate precision optical systems for its compact microplate readers. You will influence optical architectures for multi-wavelength absorbance, select and qualify components, and ensure high sensitivity and accuracy through rigorous design and testing.

You will collaborate closely with electrical and mechanical engineers to integrate optics into robust, low-power instruments.

Qualifications

• Deep understanding of optical theory including photometry and stray light analysis.
• Proficiency in optical design and simulation software such as Zemax OpticStudio or FRED.
• Hands-on experience building and aligning precision optical systems.
• Experience with absorbance-based photometric measurement systems preferred.
• Knowledge of photodetector technologies and optomechanical interfaces.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop precision optical systems for compact multi-wavelength readers.
• Determine optical specs and system requirements for product designs.
• Select and qualify optical components (sources, detectors, filters, lenses).
• Develop alignment fixtures and mounts for stable optical assemblies.
• Create repeatable alignment procedures to meet performance targets.
• Model and simulate with Zemax/FRED to guide design decisions.
• Collaborate with electrical/mechanical teams on interfaces and enclosures.
• Develop test methods and acceptance criteria for optical performance.
