Job summary

Boscov's Department Store, LLC in Eatontown, NJ is seeking a Licensed Optical Associate to dispense spectacles and contact lenses for adults and children while guiding customers on lenses and frames.

This part-time role requires a state license, at least one year of optical and retail experience, and a strong focus on service, fashion sense, and teamwork. You will operate equipment like lensometer, autorefractor, and NCT and ensure compliant, friendly service.

Qualifications

• Must be a licensed optician within the State and keep the license up to date.
• 1 year of optical experience.
• 1 year of experience working in a retail store.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Must have the ability to prioritize.
• Ability to work as a team member.
• Must have a strong sense of fashion and trends.
• Knowledge of the proper use of lensometer, auto refractor and NCT equipment.

Responsibilities

• Verify prescription orders for accuracy by comparing system entries to the prescribing doctor's original prescription and maintain organized order files using established store procedures.
• Deliver exceptional customer service in person and by phone by assisting customers, explaining products and services, and creating a welcoming, professional experience.
• Accurately interpret prescriptions, perform optical measurements, verify prescriptions using a lensometer, recommend appropriate frame and lens options, and ensure proper frame selection based on prescription requirements.
• Manage the order fulfillment process by updating order status, notifying customers when orders are ready, dispensing complete eyewear, and accurately processing all sales and payment transactions.
• Perform eyewear fittings, adjustments, repairs, and troubleshooting to ensure proper fit, comfort, and visual performance.
• Operate and maintain optical equipment, including the lensometer, autorefractor, and non-contact tonometer (NCT), in accordance with company procedures and state licensing requirements.
• Maintain compliance with all company policies, state licensing regulations, HIPAA requirements, and confidentiality standards.
• Support daily store operations by assisting the Optical Manager with opening and closing procedures, cash reconciliation, and maintaining accurate point-of-sale transactions.
• Foster positive working relationships with Boscov's store leadership and associates to promote a collaborative customer-focused environment.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and professional optical department that supports an exceptional customer experience.

• Position is active and includes moving about throughout department during the shift
