Job summary

Boscov's Department Store, LLC is seeking a Licensed Optical Associate to join the Optical team in a fast-paced retail environment. You will dispense spectacles and contact lenses, advise customers on lenses and frames, and ensure accurate prescription interpretation and fitting.

This role emphasizes strong customer service, professionalism, and teamwork while handling eyewear fittings, measurements, and equipment operation in a state-licensed setting.

Qualifications

• Must be a licensed optician within the State and keep the license up to date and active
• 1 year of optical experience
• 1 year of experience working in a retail store
• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Prior sales experience, preferred
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong customer service skills
• Must have the ability to prioritize
• Ability to work as a team member
• Must have a strong sense of fashion and trends
• Knowledge of the proper use of lensometer, auto refractor and NCT equipment
• Position is active and includes moving about throughout department during the shift

Responsibilities

• Verify prescription orders for accuracy and maintain organized order files.
• Deliver exceptional customer service in person and by phone.
• Interpret prescriptions and perform optical measurements; assist with frame and lens options.
• Update order status, notify customers, dispense eyewear, and process sales/payments.
• Perform eyewear fittings, adjustments, repairs, and troubleshooting.
• Operate optical equipment (lensometer, autorefractor, NCT) per procedures.
• Maintain compliance with policies, licensing requirements, and confidentiality.
• Support store operations with opening/closing procedures and POS accuracy.
• Foster positive relationships with leadership and associates.

Job Responsibilities

• Verify prescription orders for accuracy by comparing system entries to the prescribing doctor's original prescription and maintain organized order files using established store procedures.
• Deliver exceptional customer service in person and by phone by assisting customers, explaining products and services, and creating a welcoming, professional experience.
• Accurately interpret prescriptions, perform optical measurements, verify prescriptions using a lensometer, recommend appropriate frame and lens options, and ensure proper frame selection based on prescription requirements.
• Manage the order fulfillment process by updating order status, notifying customers when orders are ready, dispensing complete eyewear, and accurately processing all sales and payment transactions.
• Perform eyewear fittings, adjustments, repairs, and troubleshooting to ensure proper fit, comfort, and visual performance.
• Operate and maintain optical equipment, including the lensometer, autorefractor, and non-contact tonometer (NCT), in accordance with company procedures and state licensing requirements.
• Maintain compliance with all company policies, state licensing regulations, HIPAA requirements, and confidentiality standards.
• Support daily store operations by assisting the Optical Manager with opening and closing procedures, cash reconciliation, and maintaining accurate point-of-sale transactions.
• Foster positive working relationships with Boscov's store leadership and associates to promote a collaborative customer-focused environment.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and professional optical department that supports an exceptional customer experience.
