Job summary

MedVet in Dayton, OH is seeking an Ophthalmology Veterinary Assistant (Part Time) to join a fast-paced specialty team. You will support appointment-based care and surgeries, including tonometry, corneal stains, Schirmer tests, and TPRs.

The role involves chart preparation, patient restraint, vitals collection and assisting with venipuncture, IV access, and surgeries. Opportunity for anesthesia/sedation training and prescription handling is available.

Qualifications

• Must have veterinary experience.
• Ophthalmology experience is preferred.
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, IV infusions, unit conversions).

Responsibilities

• Prioritize caseload and patient care; prepare and check charts.
• Restrain and assist during examinations.
• Obtain vitals and perform ocular testing.
• Assist with venipuncture, IV catheter placement and surgical procedures.
• Potential for additional training in anesthesia and sedation.
• Prepare, call in or write prescriptions.
• Coordinate interdepartmental communication and patient transfers.

We are looking for:

Ophthalmology Veterinary Assistant - Part Time

The Ophthalmology team is unique in that it specializes in appointment-based patient care, as well as assisting and preparing for surgeries. Ophthalmology is a fast-paced service with a high caseload, alternating between appointment and surgery days. You could assist with tonometry, corneal stains, Schirmer tear testing, as well as TPRs and chemical ablations.

What you’ll do:

• Prioritize caseload and patient care and prepare and check charts for appropriate paperwork
• Restrain and assist during examinations
• Obtain vitals and perform ocular testing
• Assist with Venipuncture, IV Catheter placement and surgical procedures
• Potential for additional training in anesthesia and sedation
• Prepare, call in or create written prescriptions
• Coordinate interdepartmental communication, services, patient transfers and consults

Who are you:

• Prior veterinary experience required, previous ophthalmology experience desired
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)
• Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
