Job summary

Tampa Bay Veterinary Specialist & Emergency Care Center in Largo, FL is seeking a dedicated Veterinary Ophthalmology Technician to support our ophthalmology team. You will work closely with our ophthalmologist to provide advanced diagnostics, anesthesia monitoring, and surgical assistance while educating clients.

The ideal candidate has 1–2 years of veterinary technician experience, strong communication skills, and a commitment to patient safety in a fast-paced specialty hospital environment.

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of experience as a veterinary technician.
  • Proficiency in anesthesia induction, monitoring and recovery.
  • Strong communication and client service skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced specialty hospital.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with the veterinary team.
  • Commitment to patient safety and high-quality care.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and document complete patient histories and concerns.
  • Assist with ophthalmic exams and diagnostic testing (tonometry, Schirmer, fluorescein, etc.).
  • Prepare patients for examinations, treatments and surgery.
  • Assist ophthalmologist during exams, procedures and surgical cases.
  • Monitor anesthesia and recovery per hospital protocols.
  • Administer medications and dispense as prescribed.
  • Maintain accurate medical records.
  • Provide client education on treatment plans and post-op care.
  • Support efficient patient flow and admissions/discharges.
  • Ensure exam rooms and surgical suites are clean and stocked.
  • Collaborate and mentor fellow staff; uphold safety policies.
