Job summary

Akron Children’s Hospital is seeking an Ophthalmology Technician to support clinical and research functions within the Ophthalmology Department by preparing and performing assigned eye procedures on pediatric and adult patients under physician supervision.

Responsibilities include preparing equipment and patients for ophthalmic testing, assisting physicians with procedures, and ensuring care meets the physical, psychological and safety needs of varied ages.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma required; Ophthalmic Technician/Assistant program preferred.
• Certification: JCAHPO certification or eligible preferred.
• Minimum 1 year healthcare direct patient care experience required; ophthalmic or vision center experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares equipment and patients for ophthalmic testing procedures.
• Assists physicians with performing various ophthalmic testing procedures.
• Demonstrates ability to provide age-appropriate care for pediatric and adult patients.
• Other duties as required.

Technical Expertise

• Experience working with all levels within an organization is required.
• Proficiency in MS Office [Outlook, Excel, Word] or similar software is required.
• Experience in ophthalmology is preferred.
• Experience in pediatrics is preferred.

Education and Experience

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Completion of an approved Ophthalmic Technician/Assistant program preferred.
• Certification: Joint Commission on Allied Personnel in Ophthalmology certification or certification-eligible is preferred.
• Years of relevant experience: A minimum of 1 year of experience in healthcare, providing direct patient care is required. Vision center or ophthalmic experience is preferred.
