Job summary

Valley Children's Healthcare is seeking an Ophthalmology Technician in Fresno to provide technical ophthalmic services under the direction of an Ophthalmologist. You will take patient histories, conduct visual acuity screenings, and perform refractometry, tonometry and lensometry.

Prepare patients for exams and maintain equipment while documenting all information accurately. The role requires teamwork, ability to manage multiple priorities, and basic medical terminology.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/G.E.D. is required.
  • Ophthalmic Technology Program graduation preferred; or equivalent experience in lieu of a program.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical ophthalmic services to assigned patients and assist in examinations and treatments.
  • Take patient history and perform visual acuity screenings.
  • Perform refractometry, tonometry and lensometry.
  • Prepare patients for exams and procedures; operate, maintain and sanitize ophthalmic equipment.
  • Document information precisely in Valley Children’s systems and collaborate with the patient care team to ensure safe, efficient care.

Job Summary:

Under the direction of an Ophthalmologist, the Ophthalmology Technician provides technical services to assigned ophthalmic patients and assists in the examination and treatment of eye disorders. Takes patient history, conducts visual acuity screenings, and performs various technical procedures, including refractometry, tonometry and lensometry. Prepares patients for exams and procedures. Operates, maintains, and sanitizes ophthalmic equipment and instruments. Effectively utilizes Valley Children's systems, software and modules to perform job-related functions. Documents all pertinent information in a precise, clear manner. Functions as a patient care team member assisting licensed staff in the performance and provision of safe, service-oriented and efficient patient care.

Qualifications:
Education
  • High School Diploma/G.E.D. (required)
  • Program Graduation from Ophthalmic Technology Program (preferred) Or
  • Equivalent Experience Two (2) years in a similar role in lieu of patient care program (preferred)
Licenses and Certifications
  • BLS - Basic Life Support - AHA - American Heart Association within 30 days of hire or transfer into position (required)
  • COT - Certified Ophthalmic Technician (preferred) Or
  • COA - Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (preferred)
Work Experience
  • Minimum six (6) months Providing direct patient care (preferred)
  • Minimum one (1) year Assisting in a medical office or hospital (preferred)
Skills and Abilities
  • Bilingual Skills Preferred.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and manage multiple priorities in a timely manner.
    Medical terminology skills preferred.
