Job summary

McFarland Clinic in Ames seeks a Visual Field Technician/Ophthalmic Assistant (FT) to join our Ophthalmology team. You will educate patients, perform ancillary testing such as visual fields, topo, and OCT, and prepare patients for exams with care and accuracy.

Candidates need a high school diploma or equivalent; ophthalmic experience is preferred but on-the-job training is available. Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM, with a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Ophthalmic experience preferred but not required; on-the-job training available.
• Excellent customer service skills and ability to multi-task.
• Keyboard and computer experience; familiarity with medical office systems.

Responsibilities

• Educates patients and performs ancillary testing: Visual field, topo, and OCT.
• Prepares patients for exams or treatments and records visual acuity and basic screening tests.
• Takes brief medical history and other information; answers patient questions and reinforces education.
