Job summary

La Jolla LASIK Institute is seeking a full-time ophthalmic technician to join our busy LASIK and Cataract practice. The ideal candidate has a COA or COT certification (or can obtain within 6 months) and is steady, organized, and professional in a fast-paced clinical setting.

Responsibilities include greeting patients, pre-testing, operator of automated instruments, patient education, and clerical duties. Access to comprehensive benefits is provided for full-time staff.

Qualifications

• Candidate must have a COA or COT certification or be able to obtain one within 6 months of starting.
• Previous ophthalmic tech experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients, introduces self and guides to appropriate exam area
• Does pre-testing on Auto-refractor, Pentacam, IOL Master 700 or Argos, and iCare tonometry
• Dials prescription from Auto-refractor into Phoropter and checks visual acuity and refracts as appropriate
• Checks Schirmer's
• Answers ophthalmology-related patient calls and triages patients
• Educates patient on pre- and post-operative care
• Calls pharmacies regarding prescriptions/prior authorizations
• Responsible for daily maintenance and stocking of exam lanes (open and close)
• Maintains an orderly clinic
• Anticipates supply needs and requests supply re-orders timely
• Maintains sterile technique in accordance with OSHA standards
• Maintains patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines
• Performs additional testing such as Visual Fields
• Performs all clerical duties related to the patient and the practice
