Job summary

Qualifications

• Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting in preliminary examination of diagnostic procedures; preparing for and assisting in refractive surgery procedures.
• Education: One full year of graduate education in Surgical Technology; transcripts required.
• Combination of Education and Experience: A combination may qualify as long as the percentage requirements total at least 100%.

Responsibilities

• Perform postoperative refractions and diagnostic testing under supervision of the optometrist or ophthalmologist.
• Obtain ocular history and general medical history, record data concisely and correctly into the medical record; initiate treatment and administer medications as appropriate.
• Measure distance vision and determine optical power of lenses using a lensometer.
• Perform refractometry including manual and automated subjective refractions.
• Accurately determine glasses prescription and refraction prior to surgery.
• Provide intra-operative support to the surgeon as a scrub and surgical technician; assist with pre-laser medications and consent forms.
• Perform preoperative evaluation of surgical patients with diagnostic tests to evaluate preoperative services.
• Provide postoperative support by disposing of contaminated supplies and ensuring instruments are sterilized for reuse.
