Job summary

Target Optical in Wisconsin is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician to ensure high-quality ophthalmic care and an exceptional patient experience. You will link doctors with front-line care teams and support patient flow during exams.

Responsibilities include assisting with eye exams, documenting patient histories, performing preliminary testing, and handling ophthalmic equipment while maintaining a professional environment.

Qualifications

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • 1+ year of strong customer service skills (internal/external).
  • Strong communicator and listener.
  • Problem solving ability.
  • Organization skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to assess priorities, address multiple tasks and deadlines in fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to use exam software, point-of-sale technology and ophthalmic equipment.
  • Ability to work autonomously.
  • Knowledge of office environment.
  • Strong basic math skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with patient care and eye exams, including managing patient records and supporting patient flow throughout the exam.
  • Performs preliminary evaluations including obtaining accurate and detailed patient histories, reviewing medication lists, visual acuities, motility evaluations, pupil and angle assessments, refraction, pachymetry, applanation tonometry, and pupil dilation.
  • Performs special testing including OCTs, biometry, topography, and retinal imaging/photography.
  • Performs all pre-examination testing with accuracy and explains measurements to patients.
  • Identifies dissatisfied patients and acts quickly for resolution.
  • Maintains safe working environment and adheres to HIPAA standards.
  • Maintains and files patient records in organized manner.
  • Uses appointment book/scheduling procedures and computer operations.
  • Adheres to attendance and daily time-keeping requirements.
  • Fulfills responsibilities as assigned by lead technician or ophthalmologist.
