Job summary

The Eye Center of St. Augustine, part of EyeSouth Partners, seeks a dedicated ophthalmic technician to support ophthalmologists and optometrists across a busy, patient-centered practice.

You will perform clinical tests, document ocular health data, and assist with exams while maintaining EMR accuracy and patient comfort. The Eye Center of St. Augustine is proud to be the oldest and largest state of the art eye care center in the area offering the convenience of an eye center, a surgery center, and an optical shop all under one roof. With satellite locations in World Golf Village, Palm Coast, and Palatka, our board-certified doctors provide premier best in class care to patients across Northeast Florida. Our ophthalmic surgeons, perform cataract, laser, and ophthalmic plastic surgery on site in our state-of-the-art Eye Surgery Center. We are also able to provide eye examinations for adults as well as children over the age of seven while offering a full-service optical shop at each of our locations. We are a fast growing, patient-centered, compassionate team!

Responsible for assisting the ophthalmologist and optometrists by gathering data pertaining to the patient’s ocular health status. The ophthalmic technician is proficient in performing appropriate clinical tests, drawing on formal education and/or clinical experience that provide a solid understanding of the theory and principles of eye care.

Clinical

• Reviews patient chart to ensure completeness and accuracy of information.
• Perform testing ordered by doctor and determined by the type of exam scheduled, patient complaint and/or patient history.
• Ability to act as a medical scribe while physician examines patient, entering data into electronic medical records
• Takes an ocular and systemic history and accurately records visual acuity.
• Administers topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician.
• Ability to assist with simple in-office procedures ensures proper informed consent is obtained.
• Assists with patient education.
• Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms during the workday.
• Complies with all practice procedures and protocols. Complies with all State and Federal regulations.

Administrative

• Report inventory and supply needs to leadership timely and as needed for supply ordering
• Participate in daily team huddles and regularly scheduled meetings as planned and required.
• Understand and accept responsibility to report potential or suspected errors to supervisor or Compliance Officer
• Contribute to the team effort by completing additional tasks or projects as needed.
• Maintain positive attitude consisting of cooperation, self-motivation, courtesy, and professionalism
• Current iJCAHPO COA certification required
• Ophthalmic Technician experience required
• High School Diploma or the equivalent years related experience preferred
• Nextech/ICP experience strongly preferred
• Ophthalmic and/or optometric technician experience preferred
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
