Job summary

Coastal Eye Associates is seeking an ophthalmic technician to support ophthalmologists and optometrists by collecting data on ocular health and performing tests ordered by physicians. The role includes chart review, EMR data entry as a medical scribe, and assisting with in-office procedures.

The position requires strong communication and teamwork, and candidates with Nextech/ICP experience or prior ophthalmic technician work are preferred.

Qualifications

• Gathers data on patient ocular health and records in EMR.
• Conducts tests as ordered by the doctor and relevant to exam type.
• Acts as medical scribe during patient exam and enters data into EMR.
• Records ocular and systemic history and visual acuity.
• Administers medications under physician direction.
• Maintains exam room cleanliness and compliance with regulations.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills required.
• Nextech/ICP experience strongly preferred.
• Ophthalmic/optometric technician experience preferred.

Responsibilities

All of our medical doctors are board certified ophthalmologists with extensive experience in all areas of ophthalmic medicine.

Responsible for assisting the ophthalmologist and optometrists by gathering data pertaining to the patient’s ocular health status. The ophthalmic technician is proficient in performing appropriate clinical tests, drawing on formal education and/or clinical experience that provide a solid understanding of the theory and principles of eye care.

Clinical

• Reviews patient chart to ensure completeness and accuracy of information.
• Perform testing ordered by doctor and determined by the type of exam scheduled, patient complaint and/or patient history.
• Ability to act as a medical scribe while physician examines patient, entering data into electronic medical records
• Takes an ocular and systemic history and accurately records visual acuity.
• Administers topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician.
• Ability to assist with simple in-office procedures ensures proper informed consent is obtained.
• Assists with patient education.
• Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms during the workday.
• Complies with all practice procedures and protocols. Complies with all State and Federal regulations.

Administrative

• Report inventory and supply needs to leadership timely and as needed for supply ordering
• Participate in daily team huddles and regularly scheduled meetings as planned and required.
• Understand and accept responsibility to report potential or suspected errors to supervisor or Compliance Officer
• Contribute to the team effort by completing additional tasks or projects as needed.
• Maintain positive attitude consisting of cooperation, self-motivation, courtesy, and professionalism
• High School Diploma or the equivalent years related experience preferred
• Nextech/ICP experience strongly preferred
• Ophthalmic and/or optometric technician experience preferred
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
