Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a part-time ophthalmic assistant to support exam rooms, prepare patients, and assist physicians in a busy ophthalmology clinic in Hartford, CT. The role includes diagnostic testing, photography, and eyewear dispensing, with a weekend rotation as needed.

Qualifications include a high school diploma and at least two years in an optometric/ophthalmic setting. BLS is preferred. 20 hours weekly with competitive pay and benefits eligibility.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of sterile technique and basic eye care.
• Ability to educate patients on eye care and eyewear.
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and EMR systems.

Responsibilities

• Prepares exam rooms and cleans, stocks supplies, and calibrates equipment.
• Prepares patient for exam and assists physician.
• Obtains and records ocular and medical history, medications, and chief complaint.
• Documents and communicates information about the patient’s condition.
• Performs diagnostic tests and visual screenings such as visual field, tonometry, topography.
• Performs refractometry to determine refractive error.
• Assists ophthalmologist with surgeries and postoperative care.
• Performs ophthalmic photography as directed by the physician.
• Assists with ordering and dispensing glasses and contact lenses; polishes lenses.
• Maintains and calibrates equipment; sterilizes instruments.
• Assists with scheduling post-operative and specialist appointments.
• Provides age-appropriate care knowledge for patients.
