Job description

Title: Ophthalmic Technician II

Location: Upper East Side; Brooklyn; West Side

Org Unit: Clinical Operations

Work Days:

Weekly Hours: 35.00

Exemption Status: Non-Exempt

Salary Range: $32.86-$37.97

*As required under NYC Human Rights Law Int 1208-2018 - Salary range for this role when hired for NYC offices

Position Summary

Under general direction, performs basic diagnostic ophthalmic tests and provides administrative and patient care support to the practice. This role also assists with and maintains efficient patient flow.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Ensures that facilities and equipment are in optimal and proper working condition. Coordinates preventative maintenance and repairs as needed. May perform minor repairs if qualified and as needed. May advise on upgrades for performance enhancements.
  2. Attends workshops, seminars, and/or conferences to stay updated on standards and best practices within the field. Disseminates information to colleagues and/or staff as appropriate.
  3. Answers phones, responds to inquiries, and triages calls to appropriate personnel.
  4. Ensures patient safety is maintained at all times.
  5. Maintains a sterile environment and observes standard infection control precautions.
  6. Obtains pre-procedural consent forms and related documentation. Educates patients on medication administration and pre- or post-operative instructions as directed by the provider.
  7. Performs basic diagnostic tests, including Auto Refraction, Lensometry, Visual Field Testing, OCTs, and Applanation Tonometry.
  8. Accompanies the provider into the exam room, updates or collects patient history, and inputs patient data into the practice management system. Explains procedures to patients and answers questions.
  9. Assists with minor surgical procedures and injection preparations.
  10. Facilitates prescription refill requests.
Education
  • High School Diploma
Experience

Approximately 2+ years of related ophthalmic experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficiency in automated and manual testing, including Ultrasound, OCT, Auto & Manifest refraction, Keratometry, Goldmann and Humphrey visual fields, A- and B-scan, Ishihara, and Schirmer testing, Fluorescein.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Certified Ophthalmic Medical Assistant (COA) or equivalent higher training
