Job summary

Retina Institute of Illinois is seeking an ophthalmic technician to assist physicians by gathering data on patients’ ocular health and performing clinical tests. The pay range is $20.00-$22.62 per hour, commensurate with experience.

The role includes medical scribe duties, taking histories, recording visual acuity, administering medications, and supporting patient education in a fast-paced clinical setting. Equal opportunity employer under EyeSouth Partners.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or the equivalent years related experience preferred.
• Ophthalmic and/or optometric technician experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Reviews patient chart for completeness and accuracy.
• Performs testing ordered by doctor and documented in records.
• Acts as medical scribe entering data into EMR.
• Takes ocular and systemic history and records visual acuity.
• Administers local medications as directed by physician.
• Assists with in-office procedures and informed consent.
• Educates patients and maintains exam room cleanliness.
• Adheres to practice procedures and regulations.
• Reports inventory needs and participates in team meetings.

Position Summary

Responsible for assisting the ophthalmologist and optometrists by gathering data pertaining to the patient’s ocular health status. The ophthalmic technician is proficient in performing appropriate clinical tests, drawing on formal education and/or clinical experience that provide a solid understanding of the theory and principles of eye care.

Pay Range - $20.00-$22.62/hr. Commensurate with experience

Responsibilities

Clinical

• Reviews patient chart to ensure completeness and accuracy of information.
• Perform testing ordered by doctor and determined by the type of exam scheduled, patient complaint and/or patient history.
• Ability to act as a medical scribe while physician examines patient, entering data into electronic medical records
• Takes an ocular and systemic history and accurately records visual acuity.
• Administers topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician.
• Ability to assist with simple in-office procedures ensures proper informed consent is obtained.
• Assists with patient education.
• Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms during the workday.
• Complies with all practice procedures and protocols. Complies with all State and Federal regulations.

Administrative

• Report inventory and supply needs to leadership timely and as needed for supply ordering
• Participate in daily team huddles and regularly scheduled meetings as planned and required.
• Understand and accept responsibility to report potential or suspected errors to supervisor or Compliance Officer
• Contribute to the team effort by completing additional tasks or projects as needed.
• Maintain positive attitude consisting of cooperation, self-motivation, courtesy, and professionalism

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or the equivalent years related experience preferred
• Nextech/ICP experience strongly preferred
• Ophthalmic and/or optometric technician experience preferred

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
