Job summary

EyeSouth Partners is seeking an ophthalmic technician to assist the ophthalmologist and optometrists by gathering data on patients’ ocular health and performing clinical tests. You will document history, manage chart data, and support in-office procedures.

The role involves administering medications, assisting with exams, and contributing to patient education while ensuring compliance and a high standard of care in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Ophthalmic/optometric technician experience preferred.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Nextech/ICP experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review patient charts to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Perform tests ordered by the doctor based on exam type and patient history.
  • Enter data into electronic medical records as a medical scribe when applicable.
  • Record ocular and systemic history and document visual acuity.
  • Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications as directed.
  • Assist with minor in-office procedures and obtain informed consent.
  • Educate patients and maintain clean, orderly exam rooms.
  • Comply with all procedures, protocols, and state/federal regulations.
  • Report inventory needs to leadership for timely ordering.
  • Participate in daily team huddles and required meetings.

Responsible for assisting the ophthalmologist and optometrists by gathering data pertaining to the patient’s ocular health status. The ophthalmic technician is proficient in performing appropriate clinical tests, drawing on formal education and/or clinical experience that provide a solid understanding of the theory and principles of eye care.

Pay Range - $20.00+/Hr. Commensurate with experience

Clinical
  • Reviews patient chart to ensure completeness and accuracy of information.
  • Perform testing ordered by doctor and determined by the type of exam scheduled, patient complaint and/or patient history.
  • Ability to act as a medical scribe while physician examines patient, entering data into electronic medical records
  • Takes an ocular and systemic history and accurately records visual acuity.
  • Administers topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician.
  • Ability to assist with simple in‑office procedures ensures proper informed consent is obtained.
  • Assists with patient education.
  • Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms during the workday.
  • Complies with all practice procedures and protocols. Complies with all State and Federal regulations.
Administrative
  • Report inventory and supply needs to leadership timely and as needed for supply ordering
  • Participate in daily team huddles and regularly scheduled meetings as planned and required.
  • Understand and accept responsibility to report potential or suspected errors to supervisor or Compliance Officer
  • Contribute to the team effort by completing additional tasks or projects as needed.
  • Maintain positive attitude consisting of cooperation, self‑motivation, courtesy, and professionalism
  • High School Diploma or the equivalent years related experience preferred
  • Nextech/ICP experience strongly preferred
  • Ophthalmic and/or optometric technician experience preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced clinical environment.
