Job summary

Medstar Health is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician to join our team. The technician provides primary ophthalmic care to patients under moderate supervision, performing complete histories, preliminary examinations, subspecialty tests, and contact lens work.

The role supports patient flow, prepares patients for testing, and assists with data collection and documentation, including a wide range of ophthalmic tests and imaging.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• 2 years' experience as ophthalmic technician or ophthalmic assistant.
• COT certification within 180 days.
• COA certification within 180 days.
• CPR certification within 90 days.
• Associate degree in related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Acquaints all new patients with office procedures and testing flow.
• Audits clinical supply levels and maintains equipment; troubleshoots instruments as needed.
• Participates in meetings and community outreach; supports quality and service improvement teams.
• Performs comprehensive ophthalmic tests and imaging, including refractions, tonometry, visual fields, and OCT.
• Provides telephone support for ocular emergencies; covers front desk duties as needed.

Education

High School Diploma or GED

2 years' experience as an ophthalmic technician or ophthalmic assistant

Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) within 180 Days

Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) within 180 Days

CPR (AHA/ARC) within 90 days

Associate degree in related field preferred
