Job summary

Mount Sinai Health System is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician to assist ophthalmologists and support staff in performing diagnostic tests for patient evaluation. The incumbent will handle patient flow, data collection, and ensure adherence to infection control and safety standards, including basic life support responsibilities when needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with appropriate training in ophthalmic support.
• Medical assistant certification from an approved program.
• National Medical Assistant Certification from an approved body.

Responsibilities

• Performs preliminary screening examinations (visual fields, motility, color vision, pupil testing, tonometry) prior to dilation.
• Directs patient flow, collects data for charts, screens for conditions, arranges tests/admissions, and explains procedures.
• Calibrates and maintains ophthalmic instruments (slit lamp, tonometers, keratometer, tangent screen).
• Sterilizes/setup instruments for procedures; assists with minor office surgery and laser treatments.
• Performs venipunctures and finger sticks.

Education

Medical assistant certificate from an approved school
