Job summary

HealthPartners is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician Casual Float to support eye care clinics in Bloomington, St. Paul, Arden Hills, Woodbury, and other locations. The role involves patient testing, data collection, and assisting with procedures across diverse sites.

Candidates should have ophthalmic technician experience, JCHAPO certification or plan, and strong computer skills. This casual float position requires reliability and teamwork across clinics.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• One year or more ophthalmic technician experience or completion of an accredited ophthalmic technician program.
• JCHAPO certification or readiness to certify within 12 months of hire date.

Responsibilities

• Record patient’s presenting complaint and associated symptoms; obtain medical and ophthalmic history; reconcile meds; document allergies.
• Perform lens neutralization.
• Accurately refract.
• Plot visual fields with Goldman or automated perimeter.
• Obtain intraocular pressure measurements using Goldman applanation, tonopen, and I-care.
• Assess pupillary functions; check color vision defects; take keratometry readings.
• Perform basic strabismus evaluations and ocular motility testing.
• Obtain A-scan and B-scan ultrasound readings for IOL calculations.
• Calibrate and maintain clinical devices; assist eye care provider during surgeries.
• Explain physician orders including pre-operative instructions and patient teaching.
• Capture internal and external photographs; obtain quality OCTs of optic nerve and retina.
• Teach/train Ophthalmic/Optometric Assistants; triage patients and communicate test results.
• Review and respond to medication prior authorizations and refill requests.
