Job summary

Center For Sight Las Vegas seeks an Ophthalmic Assistant to support physicians through extensive data collection and patient history intake. You will document measurements, testing results, and patient encounters with high accuracy, while maintaining strict confidentiality.

The role requires professional interaction with patients, adherence to clinical protocol, and collaboration with Supervisors and Providers to ensure optimal patient flow and care in a fast-paced ophthalmology setting.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED, some college preferred.
  • Two years’ experience as an Ophthalmic Assistant.
  • Certification as Ophthalmic Assistant/Technician preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred, not required.
  • Must maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  • Proficient with Excel, Word and Outlook; adaptable to new software.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains comprehensive patient history including ocular and general history.
  • Documents measurements, testing results, and patient encounters accurately.
  • Follows patient flow protocol and escorts patients as needed.
  • Keeps exam lanes stocked and clean; maintains cleanliness.
  • Seeks guidance from Supervisors/Providers when needed; does not perform beyond capabilities.

Job description

Job Summary:

This individual is responsible for performing an extensive number of data collection functions, as delegated by the physician, to allow for proper, professional diagnosis of patients’ conditions.

Primary Duties: (*=essential Functions)
  • Interacts with all patients using the level of respect and professionalism required by Center for Sight.*
  • Obtains patient history, to include: chief complaint, history of present illness, past history (ocular and general), family history (ocular and general), and history of allergies and medications.*
  • Accurately documents measurements, testing results and the patient encounter as well as relevant patient information.*
Documentation to include:

-Manual and/or Auto Lensometry-Stereopsis

-Pupillary Function-Angle Assessment

-Confrontational Visual Fields-Dilation

  • Clinical Flow and Efficacy*
  • Follows protocol on which patient should be taken next from the waiting room to be worked up. Any deviations from protocol must be preapproved.*
  • Escorts patients to and from waiting areas using the patient’s surname.*
  • Keeps patients informed of any potential wait times.*
  • Following appointment, escorts patients from the clinical area to the check-out station or optical dispensary when necessary.*
  • Maintains stock levels and cleanliness of exam lanes.*
  • Seeks guidance from Supervisors and Providers as necessary, never performing beyond clinical capabilities.*
Position Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED, some college preferred.
  • Two years’ experience as an Ophthalmic Assistant.
  • Valid proof of certification as an Ophthalmic Assistant/Technician preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred, not required.
  • Requires ability to maintain strict confidentiality of all patient information.
  • Requires strong computer competency including intermediate knowledge and experience with Excel, Word and Outlook (calendar/email) and the ability to easily learn and adapt to new software applications.
  • Requires exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to exhibit workplace civility and promote a positive work environment.
