Job summary

UCHealth Eye Center LoDo in Denver is looking for an ophthalmic frontline professional to assist eye care providers and support patient flow. This full-time, dayshift role involves performing basic ophthalmic testing, medication administration, documentation, and onboarding support for new staff.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate critical thinking and work effectively in a fast-paced clinic environment.

Work Schedule: Full Time, 80.00 hours per pay period (2 weeks)

Shift: Days

Pay: $24.11 - $36.17 / hour. Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience

We offer an onsite role only; no hybrid or remote option is available.

Summary

Assists eye care providers in the care of patients and flow of clinical activities. Ensures proper care and usage of medical instruments.

Responsibilities
  • Under the direct supervision of the eye care provider, assists with performing patient care and demonstrates proficiency in ophthalmic core competencies, while also supporting onboarding of new ophthalmic staff by modeling proper workflows within areas of established competency.
  • Performs basic ophthalmic testing procedures, diagnostic testing, administration of medications, and other delegated tasks, and helps orient new staff to these procedures as appropriate to their skill level and clinic guidelines.
  • Assists with minor procedures and prescription refill process under provider direction, providing guidance to new ophthalmic staff on related workflows within the scope of established competency.
  • Performs documentation, patient education, and charge entry, supports efficient patient flow, and contributes to onboarding efforts by offering specialty specific workflow guidance to new team members as directed by clinic leadership.
  • Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast‑paced environment and take appropriate action.
Requirements
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant, Certified Ophthalmic Technician NCLE, Advanced Certification Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist
  • High School diploma or GED. Required Licensure/Certification: Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT) or National Contact Lens Examiner Certification (NCLEC) if performing as a contact lens technician. Minimum Experience: 2 years sponsored on the job ophthalmic training, or ophthalmic internship.
  • BLS through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer with card in‑hand before start date. BLS or CPR card must be good through sixty days of hire.
