The Straits Medical Services is seeking a Senior Ophthalmic Surgical Care Coordinator to oversee the patient journey from initial assessment through surgery and postoperative follow-up. This hands-on role combines clinical eye-care knowledge with surgical coordination and compassionate patient support.

You will work with our clinical and management teams to ensure appointments, documentation, and billing are accurate, with a focus on smooth workflows, clear communication, and timely escalation

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years in a clinical eye-care setting.

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Ophthalmic Surgical Care Coordinator to oversee patient journey from clinical assessment and surgical planning through to surgery and post-operative follow-up. This is a hands-on role that combines clinical eye-care knowledge, surgical coordination and patient care. You will work closely with our clinical and management team to ensure patients are well prepared, properly coordinated and supported throughout their treatment journey.

Key Responsibilities

Pre-operative Assessment & Diagnostics

• Perform pre-operative assessments and ophthalmic diagnostic investigations, including biometry, OCT, visual fields and corneal topography

• Ensure investigations and clinical information required for surgery are complete and properly documented

• Support the clinical team with day-to-day patient care when required

Surgical Coordination

• Coordinate the complete surgical workflow, from treatment recommendation and surgical listing through to the day of surgery

• Arrange surgery bookings and ensure all pre-operative requirements are completed

• Prepare and verify surgical documentation, including consent forms, pre-operative records and relevant release documentation

• Review insurance coverage and assist patients in understanding their coverage, estimated costs and payment requirements

Patient Follow-up & Continuity of Care

• Conduct post-operative follow-up and monitor patients for any concerns requiring escalation

• Ensure patients receive timely information and support throughout their journey

• Escalate clinical or operational concerns promptly to management

Process Improvement

• Work closely with doctors to improve surgery listing workflows and protocols

• Identify gaps in the surgical pathway and implement practical improvements

• Support consistent clinical and operational standards across our clinics

What You'll Bring

• At least 3 years of experience in a clinical eye-care setting

• Ophthalmic Technicians, Optometrists and Opticians are welcome to apply

• Hands-on experience with ophthalmic diagnostic equipment

• Familiarity with insurance claims, pre-authorisation and surgical billing processes

• Able to work independently and take ownership of cases from start to finish

• Warm, professional and patient-centred approach

• Good communication skills and fluency in English

• Ability to speak multiple languages or dialects is an advantage
